Real Outdoor Adventures
From Utah's lava tubes to the sand dunes to summer camp at Camp Loll — our scouts don't just read about the outdoors, they live it. Monthly campouts, seasonal hikes, and a full summer camp program keep the adventure going all year.
Skills That Matter
First aid. Navigation. Cooking. Leadership. Public speaking. Scouts learn things school doesn't teach — and they learn them by doing, not by watching.
A Community That Shows Up
Our unit is made up of Eagle Mountain families who are all in it together. Parents are welcome and encouraged to get involved. Many of our adult leaders started as scout parents — just like you.
4 Eagle Scouts earned in the past year. Monthly campouts across Utah's best backcountry. Merit badges ranging from Artificial Intelligence to Oceanography. Troop 007 has been building leaders in Eagle Mountain since 2019 — and we're just getting started.
For the troop, our goal is to hold a campout once per month. The troop, lead by the youth, handles the logistics — meals, tents for scouts, and transportation coordination. Scouts are grouped by age for tenting, though parents are always welcome to join and tent with their scout. Adults bring their own gear. Most campouts run Friday evening through Saturday morning. Most campouts have been less than 90 minutes away from Eagle Mountain.
For our troop, we select one Scouting week-long camp per year to attend during the summer. This camps are a great opportunity to deepen a scouts skills and love of the outdoors, earn merit badges, and have a great time.
For our cub program, there is one overnight campout per year with parents. This typically takes place in June and is for scouts in the 4th and 5th grade. There are also day camp opportunities available for younger scouts.
Absolutely, and we encourage it — especially at first. Many of our most involved adult leaders started as a parent tagging along on their kid's first campout.
Cub Scouts (Pack 007)
No gear is required to get started. As your scout progresses, a Field Uniform (official BSA shirt, neckerchief, and rank patch) is encouraged for meetings and ceremonies. The pack has loaner shirts available and can provide an Activity Uniform — a pack t-shirt — for campouts and activities. Beyond that, sturdy shoes and weather-appropriate clothing is all you need for most pack activities.
Scouts BSA (Troop 007)
Don't let gear be a barrier to joining. A Field Uniform is encouraged but not required on day one. The troop has loaner shirts available and can provide an Activity Uniform — a troop t-shirt — right away. As your scout gets more involved, a basic personal kit for campouts is helpful: a sleeping bag, a small backpack, and layers for Utah weather. The troop provides tents for scouts on campouts. We'll walk you through what makes sense as you go — no need to rush out and buy everything at once.
However much or little works for you. Some parents start by simply showing up to a campout. Others step into formal roles like merit badge counselor, assistant scoutmaster, or committee member. We have needs at every level — from helping coordinate a single event to taking on ongoing leadership. No prior scouting experience required, just a willingness to show up. If you're interested in getting more involved, let us know and we'll find the right fit.
Please note that any parent that wants to accompany their scout on a campout needs to be fully registered with Scouting America and complete their Youth Protection Training.
Cub Scouts (Pack 007)
Den meetings run about an hour on Monday afternoons at 4:30 PM. Monthly pack meetings are held on a Saturday in the month that works for the most families and bring all dens together for a bigger gathering. Campouts and special events are spread throughout the year.
Scouts BSA (Troop 007)
Weekly troop meetings run about an hour on Monday evenings at 6:00 PM. Monthly campouts typically go Friday evening through Saturday morning.
Scouting averages about 1.5–2 hours per week — a fraction of the time commitment of most sports. We're not here to compete with soccer, baseball, or anything else in your family's life. We're designed to complement them. Most of our families have kids in other activities too, and scouting fits alongside without taking over the calendar. See our full cost and time comparison chart below.
Cub Scouts (Pack 007)
Annual BSA registration is $85 nationally plus a council fee. Pack dues of $7/month cover awards, advancements, and activities like the Pinewood Derby. Gear and Field Uniform costs are additional, and loaner items are available through the pack.
Scouts BSA (Troop 007)
Same registration structure plus $10/month in troop dues covering awards, advancements, and basic activity costs. Individual camps may have a supplemental fee (typically between $10-$20) for food and transportation. Summer camp runs roughly $200–$400 and is optional.
To put it in perspective: scouting typically costs $285–$435 for a full year — less than a single season of football or competitive dance, and comparable to recreational soccer. And unlike most activities, that covers 12 full months of programming, not just a season. Fundraising through popcorn sales and other programs provided by the troop and Scouting can offset most costs significantly. See our full cost and time comparison chart below.
We use GroupMe for all troop and pack communication — event updates, campout details, and general coordination. You'll want to download the app when you join. It's where most of the day-to-day conversation happens.
